Umm al-Quwain is situated between Ajman and Ras al-Khaimah. It is the capital of the emirate of Umm al-Quwain offering a relaxed atmosphere, long beaches and an enclosed lagoon. The natural lagoon is ideal for water sports and small boat activities.
The city of Umm al-Quwain has the preserved remains of an old fort with defensive cannons at the
main gate. The fort has two rounded towers and a higher wall located behind the towers that are mostly in ruin. Three old watchtowers also guard access to the town.
A major attraction in Umm al-Quwain is Dreamland, an aqua park that is among the largest in the world.
This comprises 52 villages and has as its capital Bida Zayed, or Zayed City. Extensive afforestation present here covering at least 100,000 hectares is a welcoming sight from the desert environment. The country's main onshore oil fields are located in Bab, Habshan, Bu Hasa, as is the country's largest oil refinery at Al Ruwais.
